Providing support to someone experiencing domestic abuse can be challenging. There are things you can do to keep yourself and the person you are supporting safe.
You as a friend or loved one could be a very important link in the person you are concerned about seeking help. It is important to have an understanding of domestic abuse in order not jeopardise your relationship with the abused party.
It is common that people in abusive relationships will deny any abuse or make excuses for their partner. They may even put blame onto themselves. As a person witnessing an abusive relationship it can feel frustrating if the abused person does not take up your offers of help. You have to remain strong and maintain you support for that person. You may be the only person they can rely on.
