Domestic Abuse in LGBT Relationships

Awareness of domestic abuse in LGBT relationships until recently has been fairly low among both the LGBT community and society in general.

There is little research around LGBT people’s experience of domestic abuse however, from the research that we have, it would suggest that 1 in 4 LGBT people may experience domestic abuse in their lifetime.

This figure is similar to the amount of heterosexual women who may experience domestic abuse and the abuse itself can look similar to a heterosexual woman’s experience of domestic abuse.
