Raising Awareness of LGBT people’s experience of domestic abuse

About the Project

The LGBT Domestic Abuse Project is a project funded by the Scottish Government to work on LGBT domestic abuse and other forms of gender based violence.

About the Project

This national project is the first of its kind in Scotland.

The project's aim is for every LGBT person experiencing domestic abuse to receive a good response, regardless of which service provider they access.  This is in line with the aims of the Scottish Government's National Training Strategy.

What we do

Training
Since 2007, the LGBT Domestic Abuse Project has been providing training to service providers and practitioners in many areas of Scotland, raising awareness of LGBT domestic abuse and exploring the unique aspects of abuse and barriers to support because of a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity.  For more information, go to the training section of the website.

Research and Resources
The project undertakes research and consultations with service providers and LGBT people to find out the unique experiences, support needs and additional barriers to accessing support that LGBT people who experience gender based violence face.
To find out more visit the signposts and resources section of the website.

Policy
The project aims to ensure that LGBT people’s experiences of domestic abuse and other forms of gender based violence are mainstreamed into all work to tackle gender based violence in Scotland.  To do this the project works with service providers, local partnerships and the Scottish government.

Raising Awareness
The project aims to raise awareness of domestic abuse amongst LGBT people.  One of the ways that it does this is through the service user website.  Click here to visit this area of the site.
