Signposts & Resources

This section has a list of useful domestic abuse services and LGBT domestic abuse research and publications which service providers may find helpful.

Statistical Information

There has been quite limited statistical information in relation to LGBT Domestic Abuse, however increased research has been getting done. From Research in the UK, the US, Canada and Australia figures suggest that approximately 1 in 4 LGBT people will experience domestic abuse. This is a figure that domestic abuse service-providers will already be familiar with in terms of heterosexual women.

Same-sex domestic abuse

"In the survey, more than a third of respondents (38.4%, 266/692) said that they had experienced domestic abuse at some time in a same sex relationship."

It must be noted that the research sample was not completely random and therefore these are not completely conclusive numbers.  They do however indicate that same-sex domestic abuse is a major issue.
