POLICIES, STRATEGIES, SERVICE PLANS AND PROTOCOLS: MAKING THEM INCLUSIVE
As discussed in meeting the needs of service users, it is essential that LGBT people feel that they are included within your policies, strategies, service plans and protocols. Otherwise, they may not feel that a service is able to address their specific needs. When someone is experiencing domestic abuse, it is especially hard for them to turn to a service provider for help, if they feel that their needs are not included within the service, this issue is further compounded.
It is especially important, in terms of all equality strands (Age, Disability, Gender, Race, Religion or belief and Sexual orientation), that policies, strategies etc. are impact assessed. The LGBT community is extremely hidden, and service providers need to ensure that changes they are making at a senior level are having an impact on the service users intended.
If anyone has policies, strategies, service plans or protocols that they think others would find useful, please email them to us at info@lgbtdomesticabuse.org.uk, and they will be made available for others on the site.
