Domestic Abuse Info

This section provides information about domestic abuse specific to the experience of LGBT people, including case studies. It also has a glossary of terms, including (for example) the meaning of the terms transgender and heterosexism.

Case studies

People talking about their own experiences of domestic abuse are invaluable in helping service providers to understand what experiencing domestic abuse is really like. The voices of LGBT people who have experienced domestic abuse have rarely been heard. This section will host a selection of LGBT people’s anonymised experiences.

While we are gathering case studies from Scottish LGBT people who have experienced domestic abuse, ACON’s same-sex domestic abuse project from New South Wales in Australia has kindly agreed that we can use some case studies from their site.  Whilst these are not specifically Scottish experiences, they do parallel the experiences of LGBT people experiencing domestic abuse in Scotland.
